Spitfire Grill, Victoria, B.C.Near the Airport, Cheerful and Delicious Food for Plane Watchers
Close to Victoria International Airport, the Spitfire Grill is an accessible and friendly place with tasty food and a great view of the runway.
The Spitfire Grill is beside the FedEx hangar at the Victoria International Airport on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Serving freshly prepared, good quality foods, this friendly restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There are lots of windows for watching the airplanes. How to Find the Spitfire GrillAddress: 103, 9681 Willingdon Road, Sidney, B.C. Phone: (250) 655-0122 Less than one kilometre by road from the terminal at the Victoria International Airport, the Spitfire Grill is on the west side of the terminal, and a little north. (Looking at the terminal from the entrance, west is to the left). The FedEx planes are parked outside the hangar, making it easy to spot from the air. There is no sidewalk along Willingdon Road here. It's a two-lane rural highway, paved but with a gravel shoulder. ReservationsAlthough the Spitfire Grill is a casual place, some regulars recommend reservations. On a nice day for flying, particularly on a holiday or a weekend, this would be the preferred spot for anyone with time to kill or just finding themselves hungry at the airport. It's worth a try any day though, since the alternative (the airport) is so close by. MenuLots of choices in the burger department, including a tasty chicken burger that makes a pretty full meal. The breakfast (mornings only) is as good a plate of bacon and eggs as anywhere, with the added benefit of watching the planes landing and taking off right outside the window. The calamari appetizer is lightly battered and fried quickly to a hot, crisp perfection. The same for the fish and chips - your choice of halibut or cod - a generous serving of fish and homemade fries, nicely seasoned. Everything is either homemade or a very good imitation - all fresh. ServiceIt's a nice change to be served by a waitress who knows that hot food should be served hot. Here the staff all take pride in making the customers happy. Wheelchair AccessibilityAll the parking for the Spitfire is fairly close to the door. Inside, the floor is smooth concrete and there's room to move through easily. There are booths and tables, giving choices for seating configurations. The washrooms are wheelchair-accessible. Family FriendlyChildren are welcome at the Spitfire. There are lots of comical models of pilots and planes hanging from the ceilng if the view outside doesn't keep the little ones entertained. A full meal for two with soft drinks and the calamari appetizer came to $34.00 before tax and tip. Entrees are in the $10.00 range.
